And a Little Bit of Poetry

A Soul’s Journey (k.d. snyder)

On the journey of the soul

We pass through life

Searching for the many

Finding but a few…

Lessons to be learned

Opinions to be formed

Analyses to extract

Judgements to be levied…

One lifetime to see

That with cannot be seen

A few years of time

To perceive the timeless…

A moment in space

To capture the universe

A swift ride on the wind

To experience the cosmos…

A fantastic wild journey

To understand

That which we never can.

Recipe for a 70th Birthday Cake (k.d. snyder)

Take a fun-loving guy

Who laughs at himself

And pests, then laughs at you

Sifting fun and songs with you….

Mix in a noble heart

A sniffling soul

Who loves kids, young and old

Sprinkled with unbounding compassion….

Stir in a toddler at his core

Seasoned with giants, dragons, and pirates

Racecars and chasing bandits….

Slowly add saluting John Wayne characters

With a dash, of course, of decent rebels….

Finally blend a defender of puppy dogs

A perfect gentleman

And a grinning rogue….

Bake to perfection!

Happy, Happy 70th!

Reading Together (k.d. snyder)

Open bindings invite our eyes,

Casting us quests in vast new worlds,

Creative ploys, cunning escapes,

We immerse our souls and pray…

Then we turn the page…

Our new friends call to us

In courageous dusty words,

The mystery surrounds us,

With betrayals, joys and loss,

Then we turn the page…

Imagination catches our dreams,

Love entwines our unity,

As we travel the written path,

Choosing our new adventure,

Again, we turn the page.

We Are (k.d. snyder)

We are the dawns of color

The dispensing of shadows

With a toss of a sun ray…

A time of renewal

   And fresh vitality

   When all things grow.

We are the evenings of reflection

The morning of night

The dusk of day…

A time of the starlight

   And mysterious gloom

   Where the unseens play.

We are times of change

Rearranging perspectives

Of mission and motive…

A time of reaffirmation

   Of quiet commiseration

   On our journey of life.

The Great Gray Owl (k.d. snyder)

A curious glance,

Unafraid,

Our presence ignored.

Intense interest,

Demanding focus,

Fierce competence…

Searching.

Discretionary movement,

Redistribution of weight…

Poised,

To seek…

To listen…

To hunt.

Patience to wait,

Then…

Precipitous descent!

For its prey.

The Winged One (k.d. snyder)

I am one of His creations,

Exemplifying His passion for perfection,

Using the energies surrounding me,

To travel the globe with ease,

Eyeing man’s boundaries

With careless indifference,

Finding all I need along the journey,

And trusting in His benevolence.

I own freedom’s wings,

Caught on the endless winds of time,

I weave my symphony of joy.

The Love in your Eyes (k.d. snyder)

Swinging around the moon

Laughing at the clouds

Gazing at the sunrise

Reflected in your eyes…

Dancing down a dusty road

Running through the fields

Wading through fragrant flowers

Reflected in your eyes…

Singing in a rain storm

Hiding from the lightning

Jumping at the thunder

Reflected in your eyes…

Embracing upon the dunes

Peering across the waves

Finding sparkling seashells

Reflected in your eyes…

Climbing in far-off mountains

Discovering caves and cliffs

Hiking crystalline waterfalls

Reflected in your eyes.

My God (k.d. snyder)

I am the teaching wind

I breathe upon the world

I am your drink

I am that for which you thirst

I am the song in your heart

And the words of joy you sing

I am the waves

That crest the oceans of creation.

I in all that has been kissed with life

And all that simply is

I am the yearning of the stars

And in the passion of the suns

I am the soul of the innocent

The purity of Light.

I am your sustenance

And in your hunger for Truth

I am the Truth

That none can hide

And from which few wish to hide.

I am Goodness

And all good things come from me.

Faith (k.d. snyder)

Staring at the stars above

Floating on the misty seas

Of dreams and waking wanderings

the clouds hold endless symphonies.

Soaring past the ends of Time

Beyond the galaxies we know

Searching for the poetic Light

Amidst the cosmic show.

Sipping from the nebulae nectar

Where beginnings and endings start

Entangled in an earnest journey

Following our naive heart.

We attempt to unravel Creation

Envisioning its ultimate role

Testing and sifting data

Hoping to calculate its soul.

We seek the Whys and Answers

And contemplate His Plan

Faith is the true understanding

That we are sure we never can.

Have you been There? (k.d. snyder)

Have you been there?

Have you seen it all?

Have you stood upon the mountain

And listened to His call?

Have you been there?

Have you touched His hand?

Have you walked along beside Him

Or had Him carry you across the sand?

Oh, have you ever seen the tide pools

Then caught a glimpse of the ocean beyond

Have you ever asked for a simple answer

And got a question you didn’t understand?

Have you been there?

Have you seen it all?

Have you stood upon the mountain

And not been afraid to fall?

Have you been there?

Have you wondered what you’d find?

Have you walked along beside Him

And felt the quiet of His mind?

Oh, have you ever seen the tide pools

Then caught a glimpse of the ocean beyond

Have you ever asked for a simple answer

And got a question you didn’t understand?

Have you been there?  Have you seen it all…..

The Train (k.d. snyder)

Heading out on the morning express,

I met the girl of my dreams on the 7:35,

I was thinking she was so easy to talk to,

As we shared tales about our busy lives…

We had discussed the world and beyond,

By the time we arrived at the exit gate,

She promised to meet me for lunch,

Before she returned on 1:28…

Her eyes sparkled as we shared a sandwich,

And her smile shone like the sun,

I was thinking I was already missing her,

When she offered to catch the 2:41…

As we strolled through the park hand-in-hand,

I asked if she might take the 4:57,

Then we talked about God and our hopes for the future,

But I was thinking I was already in heaven…

The sun was setting; Time flew too fast,

We both agreed we needed more,

I said I was thinking she could linger for dinner,

So she made plans for the 8:44…

I took her to the station that night,

I was thinking I’d never had a day so fine,

I gave her a bear hug that she returned,

But the last train was leaving at 9:29…

We said our farewells in the moonlight,

Aw, she smiled her smile at me,

Then she gave me a kiss that stopped me from thinking,

And before we knew it, it was 9:33.

Butterflies (k.d. snyder)

Gems of the skies,

Wanderers of the flowers,

Gentle in their touch,

Light in their needs.

Beauties of the fields,

Passing our way with wary hearts,

Will we protect them?

Will we marvel as they flutter by?

Will we be good stewards

For our children’s children sake?
