Recent USA and North American Trip 9/27/25 to 12/4/25

GOING BACK IN TIME….

12/4/25 Huguenot Memorial Park, JAX, FL: At a beautiful sunrise, we played “What is that silhouette?” And so: Black Skimmer , American Herring Gull , American Oystercatcher , Brown Pelican , and Osprey ! Then: Bald Eagle , Black-bellied Plover , Caspian Tern , Eastern Phoebe , Semipalmated Plover , and a Common Ground-Dove hiding in a palm.

11/21/25 Huguenot Memorial Park, JAX, FL: It was fun to see a Common Loon out fishing Florida waters! Also: Loggerhead Shrike , Osprey , a Snowy Egret hunting , Caspian Tern , and variously plumaged Ring-billed Gull .

11/21/25 Huguenot Memorial Park, JAX, FL: A few more visitors: Black-bellied Plover , Black Skimmer , Dunlin , Herring Gull (juvs. in flight), Great Egret , Sanderling , Ruddy Turnstone , Western Sandpiper , and Wilson’s Plover .

11/4/25 Big Talbot SP, FL: We are having stellar weather this fall! It was just right for a Bald Eagle pair, Red-shouldered Hawk , Marbled Godwit , a hunting Reddish Egret , Great Egret , and Laughing Gull to be out and about.

11/1/25 Amelia Island, FL: A highlight was a wonderful Northern Harrier hunting along the road. Also: Blue-gray Gnatcatcher with a bug , Little Blue Heron with a crab, Great Egret , Pileated Woodpecker , Northern House Wren , Pine Warbler , Wood Stork , White-eyed Vireo , and Yellow-rumped Warbler . (About 30 landed right in front of us.) We also caught a Eastern Meadowlark trio on-island, but they flew off when a loud motorcycle came by.

10/25/25 Egan Creek, Amelia Island, FL: A Painted Bunting (m. in molt) was friendly. Then, a Pileated Woodpecker family of 4 stopped by to say hello (which was quite fun to see but difficult to catch) as well as a Red-bellied Woodpecker. Also: Common Yellowthroat , American Redstart , Blue-gray Gnatcatcher , Northern Parula , Little Blue Heron (Juv), and Eastern Phoebe .

10/24/25 Kathryn Abbey Hannah Park, JAX, FL: Light was wonderful as we drove into the park and immediately saw a gorgeous Wood Duck pair. What coloring! Also: Osprey , Pileated Woodpecker , Fish Crow eating berries, Northern House Wren , Eastern Phoebe , Tricolored Heron (juv), Turkey Vulture , Boat-tailed Grackle , and Ring-billed Gull .

10/23/25 Amelia Island, FL: There was an influx of birds in early morning light and they were beautiful! Red-eyed Vireo , White-eyed Vireo , American Redstart , Blue-gray Gnatcatcher , Common Yellowthroat , Northern Parula , and Painted Bunting (f).

10/20/25 Amelia island and area, FL: It was an amazing day with wonderful light! Bald Eagle (juv), Osprey , Reddish Egret prancing about fishing , Red-shouldered Hawk , Savannah Sparrow , and a Bobolink !

10/20/25 Egan’s Creek, Amelia island area, FL: American Redstart , Common Yellowthroat , Black-throated Blue Warbler , Downy Woodpecker, Gray Catbird , Northern Parula , Ruby-throated Hummingbird , White-eyed Vireo , Carolina Wren , and Painted Bunting .

10/18/25 Amelia Island, FL: On a bike ride with the camera we caught a few goodies: the often illusive Seaside Sparrow , Black-and-white Warbler , Yellow-throated Vireo , Yellow-bellied Sapsucker , Little Blue Heron , Pileated Woodpecker , Tufted Titmouse , Great Egret , and Red-bellied Woodpecker snatching acorns .

10/16/25 Egan’s Creek and Amelia Island area, FL: We went back to check on the Rose-breasted Grosbeak flock and males had shown up as well to munch on berries. Then, other birds came to the party: a Nashville Warbler duo , a male Downy Woodpecker , a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher , a male Black-throated Blue , a Blackpoll Warbler , and a Carolina Wren . Also: Gray Catbird , Eastern Phoebe , Common Yellowthroat , Indigo Bunting , Ruby-throated Hummingbird (f) , Northern Cardinal (m) , Painted Bunting (f or imm.) , Carolina Wren , and Tennessee Warbler ! The butterflies were amazing !

10/11 and 10/13/2025 Egan’s Creek and Amelia Island area, FL: The creek has been productive, so we went back there and caught Rose-breasted Grosbeak , Magnolia Warbler , Ovenbird (brief sighting), Red-eyed Vireo , White-eyed Vireo , American Redstart , Black-and-white Warbler , Blue-gray Gnatcatcher , briefest sighting of a Cape May Warbler peeking out, Carolina Wren , Common Yellowthroat , Northern Parula , Eastern Phoebe , and Painted Bunting (f). Also: Poor images of a Gray-cheeked Thrush! Butterflies, dragonflies, and skippers have been showy as well!!

10/2/2025 Egan’s Creek and Amelia Island, FL: American Redstart , Common Yellowthroat , Eastern Bluebird , Palm Warbler , Red-bellied Woodpecker , and Tufted Titmouse . Rainbow at the beach!

9/27/2025 Big Talbot SP, FL: American Avocet and Roseate Spoonbill flocks were feeding, and their antics were great fun to watch. (We were a little concerned when we saw the high tide had broken through the beach barrier and swamped the pool the day before, but birds were back there at lower tide on 9/27.) Also: Reddish Egret , Black-bellied Plover , Forster’s Tern , and Tricolored Heron with REEG .

9/27/25 Ft. Clinch SP and Egan Creek, Amelia Island, FL: An Early morning trip found a Laughing Gull flock bathing in the waves. Also: Royal Tern , Sanderling , and Sandwich Tern . Then at Egan Creek: Red-shouldered Hawk (imm.), White-eyed Vireo , American Redstart (juv), Painted Bunting (m. in molt) , and a pretty skipper.
