Recent USA and North American Trips 1/19/26 – 1/22/26

1/19 to 1/22/2026 San Francisco, CA: We paused in San Francisco for a few days to bird on our way to the Philippines for a very special wedding, then flew on to Thailand afterwards. (We were mostly with family so only birded Subic near Manila, PH for two days and one day in Phuket, Thailand.) We had a blast everywhere, but will post our USA images here, and the Asian birds under our Asia tab – coming soon!

1/21/26 Belmont Slough, SF: We heard there was a Eurasian Wigeon possibility here and we found 2 males (molting a bit) that came and gave us a bit of a show!

1/21/26 Belmont Slough, SF: Whimbrel , American Pipit , American Wigeon , Black-necked Stilt , Golden-crowned Sparrow , Canvasback , Green-winged Teal , Greater Scaup (f), Least Sandpiper , Western Bluebird , Northern Shoveler , and Western Meadowlark .

1/21/26 Coyote Hills, SF, CA: Coyote Hills was so productive, we returned to catch: more Wild turkey , White-tailed Kite , White-fronted Goose , California Scrub-Jay , Yellow-rumped Warbler (audubon), Merlin , early morning mix of Canada Goose and Greater White-fronted Goose , and Western Bluebird .

1/19/26 Coyote Hills and area, SF, CA: Wild Turkey! What a treat it was to witness these magnificent birds displaying in all their glory. Quite a sight for us! Also: American Crow , American Wigeon , Bushtit , Black Phoebe , California Scrub-Jay , Golden-crowned Sparrow , California Towhee , Cinnamon Teal (f,m), Mallard , Kildeer , Canvasback , and Red-tailed Hawk .

1/19/26 Coyote Hills and San Francisco area, CA: A little Sora surprised us in the reeds while 3 was a crowd for an American Avocet pair. Also: Cedar Waxwing and Eared Grebe .

1/19 – 1/20/26 Shadow Cliffs RA and Miner Rd, SF, CA: We spent some time on a cloudy day catching some birds we don’t get in Florida, but some of the photography opportunities were not great. It was fun to see Yellow-billed Magpie , Greater White-fronted Goose (poss. hybrid) , Red-tailed Hawk , Western Bluebird, Golden-crowned Sparrow , California Quail , California Towhee , California Scrub-Jay , American White Pelican , and White-crowned Sparrow .
