Recent USA and North American Trips 4/20/24 to 4/22/24

4/20 – 4/22/24 We traveled home from Kansas and Nebraska (Prairie-chickens – see PREVIOUS TRIP PAGE below) via Texas and caught the Southern Lapwing and Yellow-green Vireo (scroll down). Then, we drove to Sabine to look for warblers – and Oh My! Our star was a Kentucky Warbler that came for bath in front of us, but the Blue-winged Warbler was a close second.

4/21 – 4/22/24 More beauties from Sabine, TX: It was a treat to see a Chuck-will’s-widow sitting out for all to see! Then a Louisiana Waterthrush (clearer throat and chest and bright pink legs) was feeding along a stream while a Baltimore Oriole was catching breakfast above. A Northern Waterthrush showed up for comparison’s sake (spotted throat, stripy chest, and darker, redder legs). Also: Hooded Warbler , Scarlet Tanager , Veery , Worm-eating Warbler , Wood Thrush , Great-crested Flycatcher , Ovenbird and Summer Tanager . Amazing morning!

4/21 – 4/22/24 More warbler stars and other beauties from Sabine, TX: Magnollia Warbler (m,f), Black-and-white Warbler , a pale Blackburnian Warbler , Hooded Warbler , Northern Waterthrush , Prothonotary Warbler , Tennessee Warbler , Rose-breasted Grosbeak (m), Summer Tanager (m molt), Veery , Red-eyed Vireo , Wood Thrush , and a Yellow-billed Cuckoo .

4/20 – 4/22/24 We traveled home from Kansas and Nebraska via Texas and caught the Southern Lapwing and Yellow-green Vireo being seen near Hildago, TX. On the way we spotted a Upland Sandpiper pair in a field by the road and a Tropical Kingbird. Definitely worth the unplanned side trip!
