Recent USA and North American Trips 4/27 to 5/1/2026

We headed down to camp on Dry Tortugas, FL via Merritt Island NWR, Miami, and Key West. It was an amazing trip catching mostly warblers but also highlighted by a fine Spot-breasted Oriole, a Caribbean race Osprey, and a small Roseate Tern flock amidst the 80,000 Sooty Terns on Bush Key!

4/29/26 Dry Tortugas, FL: Black-throated Blue Warbler (m), Hooded Warbler (m), Northern Parula bathing , Black-whiskered Vireo , Gray Kingbird , Ovenbird , Cape May Warbler (m,f), and a wet Prairie Warbler .

4/29/26 Dry Tortugas, FL : Roseate Tern , American Redstart , Barn Swallow , Brown Pelican , Magnificent Frigatebird , distant Red-footed Booby in MAFR colony , Sooty Tern with young.

4/29/26 Dry Tortugas, FL: Bridled Tern , White-winged Dove , and Indigo Bunting (f).

4/28/26 Took the Ferry to Dry Tortugas, FL: Antillean Nighthawk , Black-whiskered Vireo , Cape May Warbler (f), Common Nighthawk , Osprey (Caribbean race) , American Kestrel , Indigo Bunting , Northern Parula , Ovenbird , Palm Warbler , Prairie Warbler , and Western Cattle Egret .

4/27/26 Brief stop around Homestead, FL to try for a Spot-breasted Oriole: What a beauty! Also, Loggerhead Shrike and Eastern Meadowlark .

4/27/26 Brief stop at Merritt Is. NWR, FL: Mostly quiet. Reddish Egret , Black-crowned Night-Heron , Boat-tailed Grackle , Tricolored Heron , and White Ibis .
