GOING BACK IN TIME….
Ralph Simmons NWR, FL: Acadian Flycatcher , Bachmann’s Flycatcher , Brown-headed Nuthatch , Common Nighthawk , and Pine Warbler .
6/12/25 Jacksonville, FL: Least Tern Study. It was great to see so many chicks doing well! Light was beautiful!
6/12/25 Jacksonville, FL: Royal Tern and Laughing Gull Colonies were also doing well!
5/24/25 Okefenokee NWR, GA: We didn’t have much time but certainly enjoyed watching a Red-cockaded Woodpecker family trio (heavily banded) feeding around us. Also: an Eastern Towhee male was calling while checking us out, a family of Great Crested Flycatchers flew by in a flurry and a Red-headed Woodpecker was checking out a hole.
5/22/25 Big Talbot SP, FL: Yes! Spoonbill Pond had Spoonbills – juveniles looking pretty! Along with Gull-billed Tern individuals, we were able to catch an immature Tricolored Heron and Snowy Egret group. Also: Semipalmated Plover and Semipalmated Sandpiper .
5/22/25 Big Talbot SP, FL: Spoonbill Pond also had Black Skimmer individuals skimming (Last BLSK image is a juvenile.). Also white Reddish Egret juveniles were prancing about in the pond – always fun to watch!
5/18/25 Alligator Farm, St Augustine, FL: While we were a bit late in the season, it was still amazing to see all the chicks at the rookery. Roseate Spoonbill nests were still very active and it is always great fun to see the youngsters begging for any food to be had. (Unfortunately, one little one got pushed out of the nest during all the flurry of wings and was grabbed by the waiting predators below. We knew it happened regularly but had never actually seen it. It was over so quickly, but was shocking to watch. Keep your distance around alligators!!!)
5/18/25 Alligator Farm, St Augustine, FL: Tricolored Heron , Great Egret , Wood Stork , Snowy Egret , and two images of an adult Cattle Egret still building a nest.
5/18/25 Anastasia SP, St Augustine, FL: We stopped at the State Park waiting for the Alligator Farm to open and found a number of Wilson’s Plover chicks and adults on the beach.
5/5/2025 Egan’s Creek, Amelia Island: A brief visit yielded Blackpoll , Cape May Warbler , an illusive but calling Yellow-breasted Chat , a Red-shouldered Hawk newbie keeping to the shade, and a Great Egret flying by. We saw and heard a lot more than we caught with the camera!
4/30/25 Huguenot Memorial Park, Jacksonville, FL: What a gorgeous morning! We caught Red Knots, Gulls, and Terns, OH MY! The Red Knot flock had at least 30 individuals. Least Terns were making nests and pairing up. Everybody flew in a tizzy when the Bald Eagle flew by and one can see why from the last two images.
4/30/25 Huguenot Memorial Park, Jacksonville, FL: A gorgeous morning! Sandwich Tern , Laughing Gull , Royal Tern , and Black-bellied Plover . AND a few more Red Knot images (we don’t get to see them very often!)
