6/30/21 – 7/11/21 We headed out west to see family and also did some birding! We hit CO, NV, ID, MT, ND before heading home once again. We loved seeing the Gunnison Sage-Grouse, Calliope Hummingbird, and Mountain Plover, while the Eared Grebes feeding and carrying their tiny chicks on their backs in ND was a definite highlight!
7/8/21 Brockman’s Hummingbird Station near Twin Falls, ID: We came specifically for the Calliope Hummingbird and were not disappointed. There were at least two full males and a poss. juv. m. A big THANK YOU to whoever maintains this wonderful place! For a few hours we were in a bit of heaven! Shown is a male Calliope Hummingbird study. (A few of the images have had remnants of feeders removed, some not.)
Broad-tailed Hummingbird (m,f) and Black-chinned Hummingbird (m,f) were also seen.
7/7/21 Silver City, ID: Rufous Hummingbird , Red-tailed Hawk (ad, juv), Common Nighthawk , Kildeer , Cassin’s Finch , and a distant Chukar covey with chicks (scared by a truck from the other direction-darn).
