Recent USA and North American Trips 9/1/24 to 10/7/24

GOING BACK IN TIME….

10/7/24 Near Fort Clinch SP, FL: WOW! Got into a flock of goodies! A gorgeous Cape May Warbler showed up along with a Black-throated Blue Warbler , Blackburnian Warbler and Pine Warbler (ad, plain juv.). It was a feast for the eyes.

10/7/24 Near Fort Clinch SP, FL: WOW! Then, MORE goodies! Prairie Warbler , American Redstart , Common Yellowthroat , Northern Parula , and Palm Warbler .

10/7/24 Near Fort Clinch SP, FL: AND Still MORE goodies! Downy Woodpecker (f), Eastern Bluebird (m) , Red-bellied Woodpecker (m), Painted Bunting (m), Scarlet Tanager (f), Tufted Titmouse , And Yellow-throated Warbler . Also a Little Blue Heron . What a treat!

9/30/24 Big Talbot SP, FL: A brief stop offered up a lone Red Knot , Belted Kingfisher, Roseate Spoonbill , Black-bellied Plover , and Marbled Godwit (1 of 5).

9/20/24 Amelia Island, FL: We had a busy September with multiple family visits which were great fun, but we did little birding. We did catch a close and gorgeous adult Red-tailed Hawk on-island along with Carolina Chickadee , Great Egret, Red-eyed Vireo , a Snowy Egret gang, and a Tricolored Heron hunting intently. AND Keep an eye out – we have seen 3 different Peregrine Falcons on-island in the last week, but they were zipping by!

9/6/2024 Merritt Island NWR, FL: Herons, Egrets, and Night-Herons, OH MY! An absolutely beautiful morning found us out at Merritt Island watching a Little Blue Heron duo (ad, juv. white) hunt along with Snowy Egret , Black-capped Night-Heron , Great Egret , Great Blue Heron , Tricolored Heron , and Reddish Egret (ad, juv. gray) individuals. They were hungry!

9/6/2024 Merritt Island NWR, FL: Other birds seen: Black Vulture , Anhinga , Boat-tailed Grackle (m,f, non_breeding), Greater Yellowlegs , Mottled Duck , and Spotted Sandpiper .

9/5/2024 In and around Ocala NF, FL: We ran into three different Florida Scrub-Jay flocks and all of them seemed as curious about us as we were about them! Then, we found two Sandhill Crane families that were hunting for food and one group was taking a bath in a deep rain puddle they had found. A Great Blue Heron and a White Ibis also found the water enticing in the hot weather.

9/1/2024 Big Talbot SP and Amelia Island, FL: Belted Kingfisher making a catch, Marbled Godwit, Reddish Egret, Tricolored Heron hunting, and Ruby-throated Hummingbird .
