8/29/22 Huntington Beach SP, SC: We found a Green Heron grabbing a snake, Great Blue Heron , Eastern Kingbird , Wood Stork , Little Blue Heron (juv), Roseate Spoonbill , Spotted Sandpiper and Semipalmated Plover , Great Egret landing in the trees , White Ibis , Semipalmated Sandpiper and Willet , juv. Yellow-crowned Night-Heron , Snowy Egret , and an artsy Osprey .
8/28/22 Hatteras, NC: We took the Brian Patterson Hatteras Pelagic Trip on what was a beautiful day. The spotters were great and we were able to see a nice variety of birds! Thanks everyone! Shown here: Audubon’s Shearwater , caught only two pics of Black-capped Petrel (showing the dorsal and ventral view), and Bridled Tern (ad, juv).
Then: Forster’s Tern , Great Shearwater (taking a bath), Long-tailed Jaeger (with Audubon’s Shearwater in one pic), distant Red-necked Phalarope, Sooty Tern (ad, juv.), and Wilson’s Storm-Petrel . Also, it was fun to see flying fish and dolphins!
Lastly : Scolopi’s Shearwater and Cory’s Shearwater :
Cory’s Shearwater: the larger, heavier and often darker-faced bird with the heavier bill and dark under-wing tips. (These birds are either self-explanatory or have supporting images not shown.)
Scolopi’s Shearwater: Smaller, often lighter, narrower-billed bird with more white on under-wing P10. (These birds are either self-explanatory or have supporting images not shown.)
Cory’s/Scolopi’s Shearwater: The exact species could not be determined by us.
8/27/22 Outer Banks, NC: We stopped at inlets, beach parks, and ponds as we drove south down to Hatteras: Lesser Yellowlegs taking a bath, American Oystercatcher , Clapper Rail , Killdeer , Black-bellied Plover , Green Heron , Canada Goose , Greater Black-backed Gull , Ruddy Turnstone , Herring Gull, Sanderling , Short-billed Dowitcher , Mourning Dove , mixed terns in flight , and Willet .
